“Entry-level tech” covers different work. A role supporting users may require evidence different from a junior development position. Start with tasks and the level of support provided, rather than a promise that one certificate opens every technology career.

These are routes to investigate, not a statement that each employer has an entry-level vacancy available now.

1. IT support and service desk

Explore troubleshooting, clear explanations and escalation. Practise documenting a harmless issue in a personal test environment, including what you checked and when you would ask for help.

2. Software testing support

Learn to describe expected behaviour, reproduce a problem and record useful evidence. A small test plan for your own demonstration application can show careful reasoning without touching a real employer system.

3. Junior web development

Build a manageable project and explain the choices, limitations and tests. A working tutorial copy is less informative than an accurate account of what you changed and understood.

4. Data and reporting support

Use public or synthetic data to answer a clear question. Show cleaning decisions and limitations rather than only a colourful chart. Check whether a vacancy expects tools you have actually practised.

5. Technical customer support

Connect service experience with product learning and disciplined escalation. Demonstrate how you explain a problem while distinguishing what you know from what a specialist needs to investigate.

6. Business-analysis support

Practise mapping a fictional workflow and writing questions about unclear requirements. Label the exercise as self-directed work rather than presenting it as a paid client engagement.

7. Structured work-learning opportunities

Investigate genuine programmes and current eligibility through official sources. Verify the work, support and commitments instead of assuming any course or internship title guarantees a permanent role.

Choose the next practical step

Compare current vacancies and identify which gaps are trainable and which are genuine entry requirements. Keep your first resume honest about projects and employment. Use the tech role map to avoid confusing interest in a field with readiness for a particular position.
